January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and to honor the fight for human rights, I am offering my eBook for FREE! As someone who has walked through the pain of a difficult childhood, I feel deeply compelled to speak out about how children with low self-esteem, dysfunctional home lives, or feelings of shame and guilt are often the most vulnerable to becoming victims.
Human traffickers prey on children who feel unseen, unloved, and unworthy—those who believe the lies they tell themselves about not being good enough or deserving of more. These feelings often stem from chaotic or abusive environments, neglect, and a lack of positive reinforcement.
I remember what it felt like to carry those burdens as a child—believing I wasn’t enough, battling shame for circumstances I couldn’t control, and looking for validation in the wrong places. While I was fortunate to encounter moments of kindness that changed my life, not every child is so lucky.
This month, let’s commit to breaking the cycle. Every child deserves to be seen, to feel valued, and to know they are worth protecting.
Here’s how we can take action:
Educate ourselves: Learn the signs of human trafficking and how to recognize vulnerable children in our communities.
Be a safe space: If you know a child facing difficulties, be a source of encouragement and kindness. Sometimes, all it takes is one person to make a life-changing impact.
Support organizations fighting trafficking: Donate or volunteer with groups dedicated to prevention, education, and recovery for survivors.
Together, we can raise awareness and protect children at risk. It’s not just about stopping trafficking, it’s about helping children rewrite the stories they believe about themselves.
Let’s use this month to shine a light on this issue and commit to making a difference.
